The unthinkable has happened!
Prolife defenders are shocked by the statement of no less than the Archbishop of Manila, Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales, on January 22, reported in Philippine Daily Inquirer. The Cardinal, speaking in a most un-Catholic voice, said that morality cannot be legislated! Since when has this been the norm?

His idea is absurd! The basis of every law should be morality. In fact, an immoral law cannot bind! If law must not be based on morality, what is the law for? Is it for the protection of the immoral?
It is curious that the Cardinal said “it’s a right of every person, especially a human person to decide what is good for them”. Is the saying “no man is above the law” no longer relevant? Is every man now a law unto himself?
What about the Divine Lawgiver? Doesn’t He have the right to COMMAND and rule anymore? Is the Cardinal no more interested in working for the Social Kingship of Our Lord Jesus Christ?
The law must not be based on the passions of men, but on the eternal truth preached by God. Anarchy begins with the conviction that every man is free to do what he thinks is best for himself. Without moral laws binding men to act with justice and temperance, civilization will die. Society will be plunged back into savagery.
Do rapists and terrorists, and all sorts of criminals have the right to decide what is good for them? If it were true that we cannot legislate morality, then we should not be enacting laws to deprive the morally depraved of their “right to decide what is good for them”! We should not now be penalizing public indecency, incest, pedophilia, what else…
If not the law, who will defend the innocent unborn babies when their parents decide it is for their good to kill the baby? If not the law, who will defend the mentally ill and mentally handicapped when the insurance company or the physicians list them for euthanasia? If not morality enforced by law, what will ensure justice, order, security and peace in the society?
Morality must be legislated, as it had always been since the beginning of human civilization! It is a big lie to say that it cannot be legislated.
